Applying CWD

The Application

CWD can be applied to any activity once it has been broken down into its constituent parts. In the video, a simple clerical task, ‘Filing Papers’, is being performed and this is analysed and evaluated in the accompanying narrative. The final result is a basic time for the task which would be created on a CWD Synthesis Record or ‘Pattern Sheet’. To view an example Synthesis Record click here.

Using the Data

Whilst the basic CWD codes and values provide the ‘building blocks’ it is not necessary to go down to the lowest level every time you need a value for a particular task or similar activity.

CWDatahandler is available to simplify the creation of Pattern sheets and store your timings in an easy to use database. Storing your data in this way makes it even easier to re-use existing data or create, organisation specific, bespoke codes built up from existing CWD codes.

Using the data from the example shown in the video, bigger ‘blocks’ or ‘macros’ can be created and used.

For example:

If an identical task is done elsewhere (Steps 1 to 17) then the basic time of 0.722 mins can still be applied. An organisation specific code could be created for easy re-use.
If only 15 documents were filed then the time to be used would be based on Steps 1 & 8 + Steps 15 to17 = 0.422 mins
If only 20 documents were filed then the time to be used would be based on Steps 1 & 2 + Steps 9 to17 = 0.447 mins
